ZUCKERBERG PURSUES TO AVOID PERSONAL LIABILITY  IN LAWSUIT

Zuckerberg argues to be personally dismissed on accusations regarding kids social media addiction

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg seeks to avoid being held personally responsible for accusation that his platforms have caused the social media addiction among children.

According to A report by the NBC Bay Area, for the past few days lawsuits have been filed against Meta and Zuckerberg by parents and schools accusing them of causing children harm through social media addiction.

Zuckerberg has however requested to be dismissed personally from the dozen lawsuits, which means he won’t be held liable for the lawsuits but the case against Meta would still stand. The complainants claim that Zuckerberg, had a responsibility to be truthful on the risks Meta’s platforms pose to children.

The CEO is alleged to have had findings on the children’s safety on Instagram and Facebook after warnings but chose not to share them to the public. However his lawyers argued that he didn’t have any obligation to disclose the safety information.

However, a corporate law that protects executives in businesses from personal liability, generally distinguishing a business and its owners, may make it hard to hold Zuckerberg liable as an individual.

On the other hand ,the judge is said to have suggested that Zuckerberg could be held liable for concealing the information if its determined that he should have disclosed the findings on what extent children were being harmed by accessing and being addicted to the platforms.
