Squid game actor O Yeong-su found guilty of sexual misconduct, sentenced 8 months in prison

Squid game actor O Yeong-su has been found guilty of sexual misconduct, where he was charged with assaulting a woman in 2017.

The actor on Friday was sentenced eight months in prison and two years probation. O Yeong-su was indicted in 2022 without detention on charges of assaulting an unidentified woman on two occasions.

According to reports by the Suwon district court, he has court orders to complete 40 hours of classes on sexual violence.

“The victim’s claims are consistent and appear to be statements that cannot be made without actually experiencing them,” the judge said

The assaults are said to have taken place when O was staying in a rural area for a theatre performance in 2017. However, O Yeong-su has said he is going to appeal against the verdict.

The 79 year old was the first Korean to win a Golden globe award for the best performing actor for his role in squid game.
