Kenyan from the University of Brighton wins grant to build a night club in Nairobi.

Jesse Mugambi a student at the University of Brighton has been awarded a grant to build a night club and a music studio in Nairobi Kenya.

Currently studying master’s degree in sustainable design at the university’s Moulsecoomb campus, Jesse is said to have developed the project with the aim of creating a versatile space that transitions from a young DJs hub during the day to a club at night.

“Having faced challenges in pursuing my own passion from music, I’m driven by the relief that there are countless young and old people longing for opportunities to explore their music itch,” Jesse stated.

The project, referred to as Studio Can-V, is set to receive 50000 Euros from Jägermeister to help fund the venues. The building of the studio will be done by local artisans and will be made from repurposed shipping containers.

“Studio Can-V promotes inclusivity by foregrounding the voices of young DJs from various communities and backgrounds, who represent the future of an equal society. I aspire to create those spaces where they can really explore their creativity and pursue their musical dream without constraint,” he said

The young Kenyans Studio Can-V project emerged the winner of the Jägermeister's Save The Night competition from 300 other submissions.

Jägermeister Save The Night competition aims at supporting projects that aim for the beauty, safety and sanctity of dance floors around the world.
