What to know about the Women Governors Caucus G7 strategy

The G7 Caucus is a strategy bringing together women governors in the country. The strategy is aimed at empowering and supporting women leaders in impacting transformational and strategic governance within the devolved structures.

The chairperson of the seven women council is Ann Waiguru, and the women governors in the council are Embu’s governor Cecily Mbaire, Meru’s kawira mwangaza, Nakuru’s susan Kihika, Machakos’ Wavinya Ndeti and Kwale’s  Fatuma  Achani.

The launching of the G7 women caucus strategy took place on Thursday March 7 at Safari park, Nairobi and President William Ruto was among the attendees.

President Ruto pledged his support in ensuring the UDA party is in the forefront helping women attain the two thirds gender rule by engaging them directly.

“I am proud to associate myself with the G7 strategy for the Women Governors’ caucus and pledge the government’s full support for it. Women are the cornerstone of our country’s politics. They are drivers of change and agents of democratic governance, yet, their active participation in our politics is limited, restricted and always dotted with obstacles. We commit to change this,” the president said

Ruto further revealed that the government has set aside radical strategies to actualize the constitutions gender inclusive law. He went ahead to appoint the Embu governor Cecily Mbaire who is also the UDA chairperson to formulate a set of laws that would require a male presidential candidate to have a female running mate.

“Riggy G and myself agree on how things will go in the future we must also agree that going forward if a man is a candidate for president the woman must be a running mate and if woman is a candidate then a man should be a running mate,”Ruto stated

With the international Women’s Day celebrations coming up on Friday 8 march, this is seen as a great women Empowerment strategy.
