US proposes a bill that warrants potential ban of Tiktok

US has passed a landmark bill that could make Tiktok ban in America effective.

Passed by the US House of Representatives, the Bill gives the Tiktok Byte Dance china company six months to sell its controlling stake or else the app will be blocked in the US.

Tiktok usage in the United States have been raising security concerns for a while over claims that china has an influence on the social media app, concerning data privacy.

A republican among those who co-authored the Bill said that the US could not risk having a dominant news platform in America controlled and owned by a Chinese community party.

According to sources, Chinese companies are obliged to a national security law that requires them to share data with government when needed to. The Chinese response to the US actions over the app was that the US was overreacting on the issue.

“Although the United States have never found any evidence that Tiktok threatens US national security, it has not stopped suppressing Tiktok. This kind of bullying behavior that cannot win in a fair competition disrupts companies’ normal business activity and damages the confidence of international investors,’ the Chinese spokesman said

However, the bill having been passed, will need clearance from the senate and the president’s signature for it to become an effective law.
