In response to a widespread internet outage affecting multiple East African countries, the United States Embassy in Tanzania has announced a temporary closure.
The outage, which began on Sunday morning, has led to significant disruptions in internet connectivity across Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, and Uganda.
The embassy made the announcement via its official social media channels, citing "degraded network service nationwide" as the reason for the closure. Consular appointments scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday have been canceled and will be rescheduled for a later date.
Despite the closure to the public, the embassy will continue to provide essential services, including visa collections and handling emergency cases involving American citizens. This decision aims to mitigate any inconvenience caused by the outage while ensuring that critical services remain accessible.
The prolonged nature of the outage has raised
concerns among residents and businesses reliant on internet connectivity for
daily operations. While efforts are underway to restore services, the exact
cause of the outage and the timeline for full resolution remain unclear
