The National Police Service has suspended a traffic police officer who was captured on camera allegedly taking a bribe from Public Service Vehicles in Nairobi’s Buruburu area.
In the now-viral video, the officer stood strategically on the road waving for the passing vehicles to stop, before he stretching his hands to meet the conductors who handed over ‘something’ and sped off.
the police unit in a statement on Friday said that they have already identified the police officer from the video.
“The officer, Haron Mwangi, attached to traffic within Buruburu Police Station has been suspended from the Traffic Police Unit with immediate effect, and proceedings for his dismissal are ongoing,” statement read.
National Police Service (NPS) Spokesperson Resila Onyango has commended members of public and Members of the Press for their continued collaboration with NPS in the fight against corruption.
