Tana River County Leaders Urge National Government to Boost Flood Mitigation Efforts

Tana River county leaders have called upon the national government disaster response team to enhance mitigation measures for flood victims in Tana River County.

The MPs led by Senator Danson Mungatana want the disaster management team to assist residents of Galole and Garsen areas move to higher grounds before the areas are submerged by floods.

In addition they want the government to improve water harvesting strategies to reduce the damage caused when floods occur.

The heavy rains being experienced countrywide have once again caused Tana River to break its banks displacing thousands whose households have been occupied by water.

Earlier this month the government had issued a warning to residents around Tana River to be on the lookout for flooding along the banks of river Tana.

On Friday President William Ruto issued a directive to all security agencies to cooperate and save Kenyans from the effects of the floods

Tana River is among the worst hit areas by floods in the country.
