Spanish tennis player Aaron Cortes suspended until 2039 for corruption charges

Spanish tennis player Aaron Cortes has been banned for a period of 15 years after admitting to 35 breaches of the Tennis Anti-corruption program.

This is according to the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), whereby Aaron Cortes, 29, has faced allegation of betting on tennis, fixing the outcome of matches for money, failing to report corrupt approaches and providing money to tennis officials in exchange for a wild card.

The ITIA confirmed that Cortes cooperated fully with the investigation and admitted to his doings and accepted the agreed sanction hence a hearing is to be held before the independent Anti-corruption hearing officer.

Cortes has been banned from playing in, coaching or attending any tennis event authorized or sanctioned by the association of tennis professionals.

Besides the 15 year ban, the player has been fined USD 75 000 of which $ 56,250 is suspended. The ban will be over by  March 26, 2039.
