Raila calls on the government to resolve the ongoing doctor’s strike

Opposition leader Raila Odinga speaks out over the ongoing doctor’s strike countrywide

The Azimio la Umoja leader has challenged the government to address the doctor’s strike that is now on its third week saying Kenyans are suffering from lack of proper health services.

Raila who has been missing in action for a while now was speaking in ODM party’s central management committee meeting where he shared his disappointment on how the government has decided to approach the medical practitioners strike.

“We see an equally pedestrian and dismissive approach to the doctor’s strike and its impact on ordinary Kenyans. There seems to be neither commitment nor capacity by the government to resolve the matter. In line with the demands of the striking doctors, the government must ring-fence health finances by operationalizing the facility improvement fund,” Raila said

Raila urged the government to honor the court ruling which directed the ministry of health to implement the basic salary as per the agreed 2017-2021 CBA.

On the government efforts in addressing the doctor’s strike, the public service announced earlier today that the government has secured sh.2.4 billion to facilitate the deployment of 2023-2024 cohort of medical interns set to begin on Thursday.
