The director general of private security regulatory authority (PSRA) Fazul Mohamed has declined the invite by COTU to attend the International Labour Day celebrations set to happen at Uhuru Gardens.
Responding through a letter addressed to COTU-Kenya, The PSRA director general said the reason as to why he turned down the invitation is because the PSRA is currently auditing the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) deductions of over Ksh 1.6 billion.
“COTU-Kenya is the subject of an active forensic investigation under Section 10 (b) of the Act on the collection and use of over Sh1.6 billion that has been deducted and remitted to the union by private security companies, therefore, we are conflicted and must decline your invitation. At the core of the Authority’s mandate under Section (l) of the Act lies a legal duty to promote the welfare and rights of private security officers,” Fazul stated.
The forensic investigation by PSRA days after Fazul Mahammed issued a directive to all security firms to cease deductions and remittances to COTU with immediate effect.
Atwoli had dismissed the directives saying COTU-K is an independent trade union and it’s not regulated by the private security regulatory authority or any government agency.
