President William Ruto officiates the groundbreaking ceremony of the Talanta Sports Stadium construction

President William Ruto has on Friday, 1st march presided over the groundbreaking ceremony of the Talanta Sports Stadium construction at Jamhuri grounds in Nairobi.

The stadium is intended to be the host venue for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) come 2027.

The sports cabinet secretary Ababu Namwamba approved the construction of the stadium in October 2023 as Kenya embarks on holding the 38th edition of the continental tournament.

The Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale also joined the president in the ground breaking ceremony, whereby president Ruto tasked Kenya Defence Forces to supervise the construction of the project.

“I expect our defense team to make sure all the timelines we have agreed are kept by the contractor and I expect that there will be weekly supervision and I will be here myself every three months until this facility is completed.” Ruto stated.

The stadium will have a volume capacity of 60,000 seats. The construction is expected to be over by December 2025. However the Talanta Sports Stadium construction worth has not been revealed yet.
