President William Ruto appreciates online content creators embracing the role of paying tax.

During a meeting with officials from Facebook’s Meta Company and Kenyan content creators at state house, President William Ruto has appreciated Kenyans accepting tax payment in their money made online.

According to president Ruto, tax payment is the only way Kenya will self-sustain itself.

“The very positive thing I keep hearing from people in the digital space is that they keep telling me you know we are going to make this much money minus tax it’s going to be so much. I am very happy that everybody is now becoming a conscious about making sure we pay our taxes because it’s the only way we can sustain and maintain our independence as a country,” he stated

President Ruto’s talk follows the Meta company plans of monetizing Instagram and Facebook. Meta officials made an announcement that starting June 2024, Kenyan content creators will have the ability to monetize their facebook and instagram contents.

“I’ve gotten a commitment that by June, all our creators will now have an opportunity to monetize everything they do in that space, put Ads and it speaks to our bottom-up economic transformation agenda,” Ruto said

Additionally the company is set to allow direct transaction of the money made in the platforms thorough Mpesa.
