President Ruto warns against supply of fake fertilizers to farmers

President William Ruto has issued a warning to individuals involved in the distribution of fake fertilizers to farmers, saying they will arrested and prosecuted.

Speaking in an unannounced visit in the National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) in Eldoret he affirmed that the government will commit to safeguarding the agricultural sector from illicit hindrances.

“We will deal with fraudsters trying to undermine our food production program by selling fake fertilizers,” the president said

The president also added that  the cost of farm inputs  and production tools will be reduced to help curb hunger. he has further assured farmers that the government has sufficient stock of fertilizer to meet their demand.

"we are reducing the cost of farm inputs so that we can tackle hunger. it is possible for agriculture to drive our industrialization and spur our export," Ruto stated

This comes a day after the agriculture cabinet secretary Mithika Linturi among other officials were summoned by the national assembly over fake fertilizers and seeds being sold to farmers.

The agriculture principal secretary, Paul Rono, has also assured the affected farmers that they will be compensated and the fake fertilizers will be replaced.
