President William Ruto has addressed the striking doctors telling them to resume work and accept what the government has offered since there is no enough resources to cater for their wage increment demand.
Speaking at the AIC Eldoret church, Ruto argued that the country lacks enough resources to meet the doctor’s demands concerning a raise in wages, hence they should accept the governments offer to hire the intern doctors and resume to work.
“We must tell ourselves the truth that time has come for us to live within our means. That is what we can offer and we have availed resources to have all the 1500 intern doctors absorbed at once,” Ruto said
According to president Ruto, the government has already addressed the main issue of the strike by offering Sh. 70000 pay to each of the 1500 interns in a period of one year who will then get permanent employment later.
Additionally, he has also revealed government’s intention to reduce the wage bill in order to free up resources to create space for more employment opportunities.
“We must be honest with ourselves and the truth is that we must live within our means. We cannot borrow money to pay salaries,” Ruto stated
The current administration led by president Ruto aims at cutting the country’s budget from 4.2 trillion to 3.7 trillion.
