Over 6000 clubs countrywide located within residential areas  closed

A total of 6931 bars and clubs that are near schools and residential areas have been closed countrywide.

This is according to the interior PS Raymond Omollo who has urged citizens to take part in the operation by reporting any bars within residential premises.

“Consequently 6931 premises have been closed and alcoholic stocks confiscated,” the PS stated

This action follows the ongoing government efforts to get rid of illicit brews and substance use near residential areas. The government extended its operations for eradicating illicit brews, with the interior cabinet secretary Kithure kindiki giving an order of closure of all clubs within learning institutions with immediate effect.

“Any licenses currently issued to bars and other outlets and premises by county governments that are contrary to the provisions of alcoholic drinks contract control act, especially as relates to licensing of premises around residential areas and basic educational institutions are null and void." kindiki said
