NTSA reveals death record reports concerning road accidents in the country

The National Transport and Safety Authority have released data showing 1026 deaths have been recorded since the beginning of January this year to March 20 2024.

According to reports, deadly road accidents have increased by 7% compared to 956 lives that were lost in the previous year during the same period.

The report further identified the major contributors to the accidents, whereby pedestrians were linked as the major cause with 384 compared to last year’s 323.

The government has engaged in various measures to curb the increasing road accidents, where by earlier on the interior cabinet secretary kithure kindiki said the traffic police will collaborate with the NTSA to enforce on road safety.

In the same period, about 1086 drivers have been arrested so far and charged in court for drunk driving. More than 5500 motorcyclists have been apprehended by the traffic police and motorcycles detained.

The CS revealed the mechanical defects on the vehicles have accounted to 11 percent of the traffic accidents. Currently the traffic department together with the NTSA have conjured by setting up with operations to find the root cause of the road accidents
