Nairobi governor Sakaja pleads with residents in flood-prone areas to evacuate amid heavy rains

So far at least four people have lost their lives and six others have gone missing as the heavy rains continue in Nairobi.

The Nairobi County Government has issued a list of flood hot spots where residents must vacate temporarily for safety reasons.

Ithe areas include Mathare sub-county, those living in Mathare North Area 1, area 2, Mathare North primary, Utalii 4A, Babadogo Laundry, Kasabuni, Gumba Bridge and Lucky Summer along Ruaka River are required to look for move out of their areas of residence for now.

In the Kasarani sub-county, residents of Gachieko, Gituamba, lower Athi and Brookshine in Ruai have been asked to leave their residences.

In the Kibra sub-county, residents of Gatwekera, Sokomoko,  Gatwekera kwa mwangi, Gatwekera Shofco, Gatwekera Riverside,  Maranatha Kwa Muganda, Kianda Riverside Holy Unity and  Soweto West Kwa Foot Bridge in Sarangombe ward have been asked to leave the areas.

In Embakasi South's Mkuru kwa Reuben, Feed the Children zone, Riverside zone, Gatoto zone, Kariobangi zone and Cosovo zone are affected.

Nairobi gorvernor Johnson Sakaja said that he has already directed teams at the county to immediately start the evacuation of the families to temporary county shelters.
