The ministry of health has issued a statement confirming that the alleged Covid-19 outbreak is an influenza and not a covid-19 flu.
The director general for health, Dr. Patrick Amoth said that the influenza is self-limiting and cases often increase in this period of the year between February to March and July to November.
“the ministry of health has been monitoring influenza cases over the last two decades, we have observed the occurrence of cases throughout the year with an upsurge of cases in two peaks; February to march and July to November,” dr. Amoth stated
He went ahead to affirm that the ministry’s surveillance system has reported increase in numbers of an influenza and not covid-19.
“We wish to inform the public the current increase in numbers is in line with the expected cases of influenza at this time of the year and there have been no significant changes in the number of hospitalizations and deaths reported,” he said.
However to avoid acquiring the infection the health director has urged Kenyans to maintain distance with those who have respiratory symptoms, wash hands frequently and disinfect areas that could potentially be contaminated with the flu.
Furthermore he has recommended the vaccination against the influenza which he said is commercially available country wide.
“If possible, get vaccinated against influenza. Seasonal influenza vaccines are commercially available in Kenya,” said Dr. Amoth
