Kenyan driver Andrew Muiruri has been fined ksh 71,000 by the FIA for possessing spare tyres that are not approved by the world governing motorsport body at the ongoing WRC safari rally.
According to a report by the FIA deputy technical delegate, Muiruri and his co-driver Edward Njoroge driving car number 38, were found with two spare tyres which were a product of Dunlop.
The FIA-nominated tyre company is Pirelli, hence the crew are to pay the fine within 48 hours or risk ejection from the WRC Safari rally.
According to reports, the team manager Mr.Asad Anwar admitted that it was the team’s fault and they forgot to check the spare tyres before the start of the rally.He also confirmed that the tyres were not used in the SS1-super special kasarani and on the road section to TC1A.
However even though the tyres had not yet been used, the stewards still consider it as a breach of the regulations.
