MCAs in Kakamega County have vouched for Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) victims in Kakamega to receive safe houses in a bill that they intend to pass into law.

This was revealed on Friday during the county assembly public participation forum at Kakamega social hall. The bill indicates that the safe houses and shelters shall offer temporary stay for the victims

In addition to the safe housing, the victims will be provided with Case management services including psychosocial and legal support.

“Safe houses and shelters will ensure the best possible security and protection for the victims and provide services that are holistic, inter-sectorial delivered by appropriate multi-disciplinary team,” the bill states.

The victims shall also receive economic, vocational and self-defense skills training and other necessary skills to lead independent and dignified lives when they leave shelters.

The Kakamega County Sexual and Gender Based Violence Control and Management Bill 2023 seeks to provide public awareness on causes, impact and consequences of SGBV, prevention and protection for those subjected to SGBV in the region
