Jowie Irungu pleads to be spared death sentence

Joseph Irungu has been sentenced to death for the murder of Nairobi business woman Monica Kimani.

The court has affirmed that Jowie’s action was not accidental and that he had planned and executed the murder.

“First accused Joseph Irungu shall suffer death under the penal code of Kenya. The murder was not accidental that the perpetrators action was intentional not a defensive act. It was planned, intended and executed,” Justice Nzioka stated

However the accused pleaded with court justice Nzioka to be spared the death sentence and instead a custodial sentence saying he is a first time offender.

Justice Grace Nzioka said that the judgment was based on the evidence adduced in court, nature of the offence and the circumstances of each case. There the prosecution called court to pronounce mandatory death sentence to the accused and no amount of compensation will pardon the deceased.

Jowie’s sentencing had been postponed severally since the court ruled him guilty of the murder of Monica Kimani. The business woman was murdered on September 19, 2018 at her apartment in lamuria gardens Nairobi
