Interior cabinet secretary has declared drugs and substance abuse a security threat in the country.
CS kindiki acknowledged the existing threat during a press briefing, expressing his concerns on the dangers posed by substance abuse on the country’s economic advancement.
“Brews that are illegal and drugs are now a major national security threat and a threat to public health. Every household in Kenya today hosts and can relate to incidences of alcohol and drug abuse. These brews, drugs and substances are directly and negatively impacting Kenya’s economic growth and development which is now ruining lives and livelihoods occasioning family disintegration” Kindiki stated
CS Kindiki further stated that there will be a renewal of licenses for all second generation alcohol manufacturers within 21 days.
“All licenses and permits for second generation alcohol and alcoholic beverage distillers and manufactures, issued by KRA and Kenya Bureau of Standards stand suspended with immediate effect.”
Earlier on Kindiki had also given directives on transportation of alcoholic and tobacco products giving manufactures 45 days to comply.
