The interior cabinet secretary has referred to the ongoing doctor’s strike as illegal based on the fact that a court order had already been established for them to get back to work.
In a statement on Tuesday, the interior CS said that the doctors have continuously defied the Employment and Labour Relations Court orders whereby only a few of them have gone back to providing health services.
“Gatherings, protests or whatever other actions in pursuit of grievances outside the law and in breach of court directives undermines the constitutional order of the country and are not permissible,” Kindiki said
In addition, Kindiki argued that the striking doctors have continued to threaten health services, interfering with the work of those who are not striking which is a disruption of public order. He has further vowed to protect the health workers who have already reported back.
“Law enforcement agencies are directed to ensure strict maintenance of law and order to protect the general public and the health workers who have chosen to obey the court order,” he added
The court order required the doctors to engage in a conciliation and negotiation proceedings within 14 days and later file a memorandum of understanding on minimum service guarantees in public health facilities.
