IG Koome sued by human rights organizations over directives issued on the doctors demonstrations

The police inspector general Japheth Koome has been sued by nine human rights organizations over remarks he made regarding the medical practitioners demonstrations saying they were disrupting the public.

The inspector general issued an order to the police on Sunday to deal with the striking doctors who will hold demonstrations saying they pose a threat to public safety.

The human rights associations have issued an ultimatum to the latter to take back the order by Sunday 6 PM or they will sue him. The organizations expressed their concern saying that inspector general’s order could lead to the police officers forcefully interfering with the doctors peaceful demonstrations harming them.

"Applicants fear that this directive requires police officers to forcefully disperse peaceful and unarmed protests by the medics," the file stated

The human rights organization termed IG Koome’s order as illegal saying it endangers the lives of the medical officers and they will solely hold him responsible.
