IED Blast in Elwak Town, Mandera County: Fatalities Feared

An Improvised Explosive Device (IED) has reportedly killed at least five  people in Elwak town, Mandera County where it went off.

The explosion happened on Monday morning opposite a local administration police camp. The targeted area is said to be residential area for non-locals including teachers casual laborers and police officers.

Police reports have not issued any details concerning the incident but affirmed that there indeed was an explosion. However, according to witness’s four non-locals and one local had been found motionless when the incident occurred.

Following the incident, the Equity bank branch in Elwak suspended its operations today but assured safety of its staff members.

Police officials suspect the explosive was set up by Al-shabaab terrorist or locals who are extremist’s disguising under Al-shabaab terrorist’s activities.
