The rains that started on Sunday night raining overnight till Monday, have caused several deaths, displacements and people waking up to chaotic traffic on the roads due to the flooding.
The Nairobi expressway was a challenge for the motorists with flooding’s on certain sections, leading to traffic, questioning its effectiveness when such scenarios occur.
Residential areas near rivers and drainages in the city were flooded, leading to residents seeking refuge elsewhere due to fear.
In Gigiri, three people among them bodaboda riders were swept by water from the heavy downpour.
A police officer on the rescue in kamukunji area was also carried by the raging water. According to reports by the police, the officer and his colleagues had responded to a distress call to rescue a family trapped in a flooded house, where the rescue was successful but one of the officers sunk in in hole while they were leaving. His body is yet to be found.
Following the heavy downpour, emergency service providers have been sent to various areas to assess the damage and wellbeing of the residents.
