Governors set to address the ongoing nationwide medical workers strike

The council of governors has scheduled a meeting with the agenda of addressing the ongoing strike by medical practitioners which has been affecting medical service provision in the public health facilities.

Earlier on, the doctors were ordered to return to work but the bigger percentage did not comply even after warnings were issued to them, saying they were not sacred of threats.

The medical workers claim the government has not been following the 2017 CBA as agreed. The KMPDU secretary general, Davji Atella gave an outline of their demands of which he claims that the government has failed to implement.

“The government has not yet implemented the basic salary in the CBA. The comprehensive medical cover has been disowned, medical interns have not been posted, postgraduate training has also been disowned and doctors are not being employed,” Atella said

Other KMPDU individuals have disregarded the government measures of handling the strike saying that it is politicizing the issue. The strike now marks 13 days of patients suffering due to lack of adequate services in the medical facilities.
