Governor Sakaja responds to the floods in Nairobi

Sakaja issues directives over floods in Nairobi from  the heavy rains.

Following the heavy rains experienced on Sunday that resulted to flooding's in most parts of Nairobi, the Nairobi governor Johnson sakaja has issued directives in response to the damages caused.

In a statement on Monday, the governor affirmed that the Nairobi county disaster management team is in the front row to address the situation.

The governor said that technical teams with specialized equipment’s will be deployed to unclog sewers and clean drainage systems in the affected areas which is one major cause of the floods.

He also said that 170 green army personnel’s from the Green Nairobi initiative will be deployed to   unblock and clear drains in areas prone to floods.

Governor Sakaja directed the Nairobi water and sewerage company to distribute clean drinking water to residents in the affected areas.

In the issue of missing persons, the governor assured that in collaboration with other departments the issue will be addressed accordingly.

“The disaster management is working closely with the national police service. National disaster operations center and the red cross to aid in search and rescue efforts for missing persons,” sakaja said

He further urged residents living in flood prone areas to relocate to safer areas and assured them security of their properties.
