Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja has given the city county inspectors preferably Kanjo the authority to take action on individuals found recording them during their arrest operations saying it’s an obstruction of justice.
Sakaja has expressed his disappointment with the Netizens who record the clips then share them on social media platforms to gang against the officers. He argued that the recordings only cause disruptions as it impedes the lawful operations of the Kanjo.
Governor Sakaja response comes after the increasing incidents between city residents and kanjo’s where people are recording encounters with the Kanjo to hold them responsible for their actions
However Sakajas decision has raised concerns among Nairobi residents over potential abuse of power by the kanjo’s. In response, the governor firmly assured his support to the Kanjo and urged them to carry on their operations without interference.
Nairobi City County Inspectorate act 2017, outlines the responsibilities of the Kanjo throughout Nairobi. The officers are responsible for regulating and managing traffic on county roads, maintaining order and prevent disruptions in public areas in the city.
