Government ministries prohibited from procuring branded materials in efforts to reduce state expenditure

The Kenyan government has suspended all its public ministries, agencies and corporations from purchasing branded promotional materials to reduce the government expenditure.

This is according to communication made by the president’s chief of staff and head of public service Felix Kosgei.  He gave instructions saying that there will be no promotional materials and merchandise procurement including t-shirts, tracksuits or any other branded materials.

He went ahead to justify this government’s decision saying that the state is set to ensure it reduces its expenditure and ensure proper utilization of public funds.

“To further streamline the expenditure and optimize the utilization of public resources, all ministries, state departments and state corporations are directed to suspend and immediately cease the procurement, printing and production of cooperate wear, including but not limited to t-shirts, shirts, tracksuits and other branded clothing,” the statement read

The suspension also includes purchase of promotional merchandise such as calendars, umbrellas, bags, notebooks and other promotional materials.

The public agencies have been urged to adhere to the new directive accordingly.
