The government has allocated Sh.123 million to cater for meals for the vulnerable Muslim families during Ramadan.
This is according to a statement by the government’s spokesperson, Isaac Mwaura, saying that the government has committed to ensuring their support to the Muslim community during this fasting period.
“This demonstrates the government’s commitment to ensuring unity with the Muslims during the Ramadhan period,” he stated
Earlier on the government accepted the supreme council of Kenya Muslims request for tax exemption on Holy Ramadhan dates. The treasury CS Njuguna Ndung'u announced the government’s decision saying the state would be responsible for the taxes due on the imported dates for Ramadhan.
“to provide support of the Muslim community the government has authorized that the dates imported and cleared during this year’s Ramadhan period, be done without payment of taxes, import declaration fees and railway development levy,” CS Njuguna Ndung’u said
Deputy President, Gachagua is among the state officials who have shared their best wishes to the Muslims as the Ramadhan period kicks off.
In accordance with the Islamic calendar, this year’s Ramadhan began on the evening of March 10 to end on Tuesday, April 9.
