Friday May 10 2024 has been gazetted as a public holiday to honour the lives of those who were claimed by floods in the country.

President Ruto has also announced extensive tree planting programme for climate change mitigation.

“I’m asking every Kenyan to plant trees on Friday 10th May, as that will help in combating floods in future,” Ruto stated

On Tuesday the interior CS announced that currently 238 Kenyans have been claimed by the floods from the heavy rains being experienced countrywide with 174 people having been injured and 235,000 people, displaced.
