Floods sweep away a bus loaded with passengers along Nairobi - Garissa highway

The kenya Red Cross has rescued  passengers who were trapped in a bus that was swept away by floods along the Nairobi-Garisaa highway.

The bus is said to have carried a total of 50 passengers heading to Nairobi from northern Wajir when the accident happened.  According to police reports, the bus driver was crossing a flooded section of the road when the bus stuck in the mud and was carried away by the floods.

According to the rescue team, the mission had been a challenging one where by it took 10 hours for all the passengers aboard to be saved from the raging waters

However the police have confirmed that action will be taken against the bus driver for ruisking the lives of more than 50 people.

Clips shared by witnesses could show the bus under Umma Express being submerged in the water.
