Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Kenya

Ethiopian Prime Minister  first state visit in Kenya

Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, was received at the Jomo Kenyatta international airport by President William ruto, where they later headed to the Nairobi Delivery Centre for the opening of the Samasource Kenya EPZ limited.

This is the first state visit that the Ethiopian prime minister has done since William ruto took over as president. According to diplomatic sources,  PM Abiy Ahmed’s  indifference towards president Ruto was a speculated protest for appointing former president Uhuru Kenyatta as the mediator  in the Tigray conflict in Ethiopia without consulting him. Therefore his visit is seen to be a sign of improved relations between Kenya and Ethiopia.

Sources say the visit aims to improve the economic and security ties between Kenya and Ethiopia which would help pull Ethiopia from isolation.

Kenya and Ethiopia have the oldest defense agreement that goes way back in 1960’s from Kenya’s President Jomo Kenyatta and Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie’s friendship.
