The government has resolved to spend Ksh 600M to refurbish the official residence of the deputy president in Karen. The controller of Budget Margaret Nyakang’o on her release of the budget implementation review report, stated that nearly Ksh 600 million will be spent for the upgrade.
DP Gachagua moved to his Karen residence in May 2023, whereby he had earlier on explained his reason for not moving to the house sooner, saying the residence was in a bad state." The rooftop was leaking, the borehole pump was broken down,” he claimed.
Since it started in 2006, maintenance of the office of the deputy president has been a concern as its cost pushes higher during refurbishments. The last administration under former president Uhuru Kenyatta cost Kenyans over 100M to upgrade the house with Ruto as the deputy president, who had also pointed a few faults with the residence. According to Gachagua in an earlier statement, the office of the deputy president lacked the finances to facilitate maintenance and repairs.
COB Margaret Nyakang’o also confirmed that the upgrading already started in July last year.
