CS Duale bans Political rallies from Uhuru Park and central park

The defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has issued a directive that political rallies are no longer allowed at the newly renovated Uhuru and central parks in Nairobi.

Speaking in Senate on Wednesday, Duale said that once the parks have been reopened, political meetings will be out of bounds.

“That park will never again be used by politicians to address rallies; it is out of bounds. The political class will look for another venue. Uhuru and Central parks belong to Kenyans,” Duale said

Renovations that have been done  in the park include rehabilitation of green spaces, restoration of the monuments, improved infrastructure and enhanced security through fencing and installation of a visitors management system.

The parks were closed to the public in March 2022 to pave the way for restoration by the Kenya Defense Forces and the now-defunct Nairobi Metropolitan Services.

However the CS also said that the renovations are not over yet since the water and drainage systems have not been installed yet.
