Council of Imams and Preachers Applaud Ban on Miraa, Call for Wider Restrictions on Substance Abuse

In a significant move aimed at curbing the prevalence of drug abuse, the Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya has voiced its support for the recent ban on Miraa and Muguka imposed by the County Government of Mombasa.

Led by the National Organizing Secretary, Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa, the council commended the decision, emphasizing its potential to mitigate the adverse effects of substance abuse in coastal communities.

The directive, which prohibits the sale and consumption of Miraa and Muguka in Mombasa County, has received widespread acclaim from religious leaders and community stakeholders alike. Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa underscored the importance of extending this ban to neighboring counties, including Kilifi and Kwale, to create a unified front against substance abuse across the coastal region.

The Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya emphasized the need for a holistic approach to tackling substance abuse, advocating for the inclusion of alcohol in the ban. Sheikh Mohammed Khalifa stressed that extending restrictions to encompass alcohol consumption would significantly contribute to restoring social order and fostering a healthier environment within coastal communities.

The council's stance reflects a broader consensus among religious leaders and community activists who are united in their efforts to combat substance abuse in Kenya. With drug-related issues posing a significant threat to public health and societal stability, the call for stringent measures resonates strongly within affected regions.
