COTU clears on its intervention in the bid to end doctor’s strike

Secretary General of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU), Francis Atwoli has condemned claims of his unwillingness to address the doctor’s strike in the country.

Speaking on Saturday during a shops stewards meeting Atwoli revealed that he has been in touch with the various ministries set to address the issues that led to the doctor’s strike and he is set to come with a solution on how they will get to work.

“Today I was late because of the issues of the doctors strike, people are staying that I am not talking. We are consulting, I have been in touch with the minister this morning and I want to be in touch with the union," SG said

He however clarified that unions associated with COTU have independence on their actions hence COTU has no mandate to establish a stance on behalf of any of them

“we can neither decide for the Union nor the government, that is why there is tripartism arrangement but we can narrow the gap on issues and come up with a return to work formula for doctors to go back to work……….that is what I am working on as the SG and as the spokesperson of workers in this country,” Atwoli said

The doctors strike is now on the 23rd day, where they have maintained there stand of not going back to work despite the government offers to try get them back.
