Busia County takes lead in bribery in a survey by the EACC

The ethics and Anti-Corruption commission has revealed data showing counties where bribery is practiced the most in the country.

Among the leading counties is Busia, Baringo, Nairobi, Nakuru and Machakos county. This indicates that in order to get services in this counties a higher probability is that you will be asked to give bribes.

According to the data on the survey report, the probability of being asked for a bribe in Busia for services is 2.02 times, in Baringo its 1.34 times, Nairobi 1.12 times,Nakuku 1.11 times and Machakos 1.09 times.

To get government services 34.4% of citizens are asked for bribes and 28.3% comply with the requests by paying it. Corruption has been ranked as the fourth pressing issue facing Kenya right now after high cost of living, unemployment and poverty.

The EACC plays the role of gathering information on corruption in government and public sector from a variety of sources.
